Caregiver Duties

The regular duties of a Care Worker shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Assisting and attending to the patient’s personal hygiene as required, including:
  • Patient hygiene including – sponge-bathe, bed wash and bathing or showering:
  • Washing, combing and setting of hair:
  • Assist the female patients with make-up and hair arranging.
  • Brushing teeth/mouth care.
  • Toilet needs.
  • Manicures and pedicures (clipping nails on both hands and/or feet as required)
  • Assisting and preparing of meals and liquid beverages for the patient.
  • Assisting the patients at meal times, feeding the patients and assisting with the intake of liquids.
  • Assisting the patients at meal times, feeding the patients and assisting with the intake of liquids.
  • Assisting the patient to sit up in bed, on a chair taking into account the type of operation and/or injury of the patient and making sure of the time the patient is allowed to sit up. The Care Worker shall also ensure that the necessary pillows, blandest and or equipment are ready and correctly used while he/she is assisting the patient to sit up for any reason.
  • Assist the patient to get in and out of bed.
  • Assist the patient when patient needs to walk or when patient is required to walk as part of exercise as per instruction of the qualified person in charge of patient and/or as per the instruction of a Medical Practitioner.
  • Assist with bed exercises as per instruction of the Qualifier Physiotherapist in charge of the patient.
  • All duties in relation to the measuring of body fluids as per instruction of the qualified person in charge of the patient.
